Ferry accident in NYC injures at least 57 people
1/9/2013At least 57 people were injured this morning when a Seastreak commuter ferry slammed into a dock in Lower Manhattan. The ferry, which had more than 200 people onboard, seemed to have difficulty docking as it arrived from Atlantic Highlands, N.J. Although early reports said that none of the injuries were life-threatening, the latest update from the Associated Press says that 11 people have been seriously injured, including one person in critical condition after sustaining a head injury. Several other victims were carried away from the pier on stretchers. The 141-foot-long ferry sustained a large gash to its front corner. "[It] hit the deck," a spokesman for the FDNY said.
