Cops say man stole tax refunds of brain-injury victims

An ex-manager of a nonprofit agency that treats victims of severe brain injury is alleged to have stolen the identities of 56 patients and then filed bogus tax returns with the IRS. Prosecutors estimate Benjamin Achampong made off with more than $200,000 in refunds, and they've charged him with grand larceny and identity theft. He allegedly had the refunds sent to one of several bank accounts he controlled. The prosecutor notes the IRS will send a refund to any routing number without question.
