Corleone mayor apologizes for godfathers' crimes
1/16/2013The mayor of Corleone, Italy, a Sicilian town whose ruthless legacy was immortalized in "The Godfather," has offered his apologies to victims of Mafia violence — and he's hoping it's an offer they won't refuse. "I apologize in the name of all the people of Corleone. I ask forgiveness for the blood that was spilled," Mayor Leoluchina Savona said Monday during a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of mafia leader Toto "The Beast" Riina's arrest. "To the Mafia, I ask you to leave this land, to abandon the struggle … to admit defeat, to surrender." In other words, take your guns and your cannoli and get out. [Source]
