Eighth DWI conviction lands serial offender in prison for life11/26/2012
A jury in Texas has decided the only way it can keep Cornelio Garcia-Mata from getting behind the wheel drunk is to put him behind bars — for good. It took just 20 minutes for the panel to throw Garcia-Mata in prison for life after his eighth conviction for driving while intoxicated, this time registering a blood-alcohol content of a whopping .446. That made his truck a deadly weapon in the jury's eyes, and now Garcia-Mata won't be eligible for parole until he's 75. "That's somebody we won't have to worry about killing somebody," said prosecutor Sammy McCrary. Just don't let him push the book cart from the prison library. [Source]
