Being all about the Lincolns gets inept counterfeiter arrested

11/16/2012

For aspiring counterfeiters looking to perfect their craft, it's good to start with a basic understanding of which prominent Americans are featured on the various bills we use. A man in North Attleboro, R.I., was arrested for allegedly purchasing socks at a Target with fake $100 bills. How could authorities tell the bills were fake? Dana Leland's bills featured Abraham Lincoln instead of Benjamin Franklin, which is, of course, why they are called Benjamins. Lincoln appears on the $5 bill. Still, the cashier at Target accepted the fake money and gave Leland change for his purchase. Officials should also look closely at any cash Leland uses to post bail. [Source]
