Country folk fatter than city slickers, study says

9/14/2012

If you live in the country, you’re more likely to be obese than someone clipping through the rat race of the city according to a new nosy study by the University of Kansas’ Department of Preventive Medicine. Thirty-nine percent of rural Americans compared to 33 percent of urban Americans are obese according to their findings, and they point to both diets high in fat (country-fried steak, country-fried chicken, country-style grave … really, this shouldn’t be all that surprising) and physical isolation, which makes it harder to access healthy food and access a gym, as driving the difference.
