Crafty cereal company makes off with Pepsi's iconic slogan3/15/2012
Hey, remember when Pepsi's slogan was "The Choice of a New Generation?" Because they seem to have forgotten about it, literally. The soda giant let the trademark lapse on the tagline -- popular during the years between "Miami Vice" and Michael Jackson's hair catching fire while filming a Pepsi ad -- allowing it to be scooped up by an oatmeal company for its own ad. Better Oats, a bargain breakfast cereal from MOM Brands (the shiny new name for Malt-O-Meal) quietly grabbed the forgotten tagline in 2009, before the product even appeared on store shelves. Business Week called Pepsi's brain freeze a "huge gaffe" but does note that MOM's CEO Chris Neugent is a former Pepsi marketing exec. BURN!
