7-yr-old shot dead by dad outside gun shop

12/10/2012

A seven-year-old boy who liked to pretend he was a superhero was shot dead while sitting in his booster seat in his dad's pickup truck outside a gun shop Saturday – and his dad was holding the gun. Joseph Loughrey took his son Craig along when he tried to sell a Marlin rifle and a 9 mm handgun. The Pennsylvania shop turned down his goods and reportedly as he placed the handgun in the truck's center storage console, it went off, firing a bullet into Craig's chest and killing him instantly. The distraught father told cops he didn’t realize the weapon was loaded. The heartbreaking incident is being treated as an accident, and police say they don’t anticipate filing charges. [Source]
