A quarter of us have more credit card debt than savings

2/27/2013

Think twice before you plunk down the plastic next time: A new study shows that one in four swipe-happy Americans have more credit card debt that savings. Personal finance site Bankrate is the source of the demoralizing report, which shows that only about 55-percent of Americans have more emergency savings than credit card debt. About 16 percent have none of each, and the rest of the respondents either didn't know (troubling) or wouldn't answer (understandable, we guess). The results show little improvement from 2011 and 2012's surveys. Bankrate blames stagnant wages; we blame drunk-shopping on Amazon. (Please lock up our credit cards post-happy hour.) [Source]
