Creepy talking (and listening) surveillance cameras are here

5/15/2012

Tricked out street lights incorporating "homeland security applications" that can bark orders at passers-by are being installed in major U.S cities. While this could make your next excursion into the city streets much more exciting, critics are warning the "IntelliStreets system" is a Big Brother step too far. The system includes a variety of cameras and sensors, and perhaps more worryingly, can record conversations. IntelliStreets connects via Wi-Fi and is currently being rolled out in Detroit, Chicago and Pittsburgh, with manufacturers saying it's also suitable for "retail malls, sports venues, on college campuses, and in new construction."
