Oh, snap! Epic pole-vaulting FAIL ruins Olympian's dreams

8/8/2012

After months of hard training for the Olympics, a pole-vaulter’s biggest nightmare is for his pole to snap during the competition. That was Lazaro Borges' horrible fate during a qualifying session in London on Wednesday. While attempting to vault a height of 5.35 meters (17 feet, 7 inches), the Cuban athlete planted his pole as per normal, only for the apparatus to snap into three pieces as it struggled to support his weight. Borges, who won a silver medal at last year’s World Championships, was unhurt (except for maybe his ego), but he failed to qualify for the final competition on Friday.
