Cult accused of killing witch doctors to eat brains, penises

7/15/2012

If you're eating right now, look away. We mean it. Are they gone? OK. Everyone else will be fascinated/disgusted to hear that 29 members of a cult believed to be up to 1,000 people strong have been arrested for murder and cannibalism in rural Papua New Guinea. Apparently, having grown weary of local witch doctors overcharging and demanding sex for their services, the group has allegedly been killing the offending witch doctors, eating their brains and making soup from their penises, hoping to absorb their spiritual powers. Although murder is punishable by death in Papua New Guinea, the practice of consuming human flesh (aka "long pig") has persisted in remote parts of the country through the latter part of the 20th century and apparently into the 21st.
