Da Vinci 'to do' list reminded him to pick up skull, nutmeg

4/7/2012

Even geniuses need "to do" lists. Leonardo da Vinci's daily reminders, handwritten in his distinctive mirror scrawl around the year 1510 (before the era of BlackBerrys), is about to go on display for the first time. The list includes such gruesome memos as "Get hold of a skull. Nutmeg," "Describe the tongue of the woodpecker" and "Observe the holes in the substance of the brain." The documentation, found in a da Vinci notebook, also features a packing list for an upcoming journey, including such items as charcoal, firestick, bone saw and forceps. Buckingham Palace's exhibition curator says the artist may have been preparing for a trip to Italy's Pavia medical school to dissect corpses. Sounds like a fun vacay.
