Ski jump fail shows the agony of defeat is often just embarrassment

It's been more than 40 years since Slovenian ski jumper Vinko Bogataj became the "agony of defeat" meme for his spectacular crash that used to lead into ABC's "Wide World of Sports" telecasts. Now here's agony's little brother: the sheepish indignity of fail. Its father is Daiki Ito of Japan, whose jump at the World Cup in Sapporo was over before it began when he tumbled down the Okurayama hill. Ito suffered no injuries except, of course, to his pride, as it happened in his home country and he wasn't allowed to jump again after standing in second place after the first round. Oh, and the agony of seeing it on the Internet again and again.
