Sneaker on track costs Danica Patrick her shot at a race victory

8/19/2012

It's well-known that shoe-throwing is a grave form of insult in many parts of the world; however, when someone in the crowd hurled a sneaker at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve track today in Montreal, NASCAR driver Danica Patrick learned it can also cost you a race. In the video above, watch how Patrick, who had been leading much of the day's tour race, gets thrown for a loop when she strikes the shoe. You can hear her complain about the steering before she is forced to pit three times, followed by an axle breaking once she returned to the course, which cost her any chance at winning. All because of a sneaker. [Source]
