Gamers rally to help cover artist's $450,000 brain cancer bill

9/18/2012

It's helpful to have friends in high places — or in gaming forums. Gamers have rallied around artist Daniel Somerville as he recuperates in a Phoenix hospital from brain tumor surgery. They've already raised more than $9,000 for his treatment, but he'll still owe around $440,000 — or $7,400 a year if he lives "to be about 90 years old." Somerville was working on fantasy art and picking up part-time work in a call center, a position that didn't come with insurance. He ignored the seizures he was having for about a year, until symptoms worsened and he underwent surgery. Here's hoping an ailing artist can get some of the same Internet love as a bullied school monitor. [Source]
