Daredevil leaps out of copter without chute, breaks record
5/23/2012The wings of Icarus may have disintegrated midflight, but British stuntman Gary Connery avoided the same fate on Tuesday. The daredevil's specially made wing suit carried him to a new record for landing an insanely high jump from a helicopter without the use of a parachute. Yes, without a parachute. Instead of the waters that met Icarus in his fall, this 42-year-old father "flew" 2,400 feet down from the copter into a sea of nearly 19,000 cardboard boxes. He was met there by his wife, who said, "I'm just so relieved it is all over." She's not alone.
Is Connery's feat admirable or simply insane?
