Nimble robot can conquer any obstacle put in its path
10/29/2012They're building cars and vacuuming our carpets and even stealing our groupies. So what's next for Robot Nation? Looks like we'll find out during the 2-year-long Robotics Challenge launched last week by DARPA, the Pentagon's advanced research agency. This bad boy, called Pet-Proto, won't be part of the $2 million competition, but gives an indication of what DARPA is looking for: a robot that can handle tasks and obstacles in disaster and rescue scenarios. Please don't be alarmed that it moves more like Schwarzenegger than Jagger. There's absolutely no chance it's a cyborg assassin programmed to thwart human resistance. Yet. [Source]
