Nimble robot can conquer any obstacle put in its path

They're building cars and vacuuming our carpets and even stealing our groupies. So what's next for Robot Nation? Looks like we'll find out during the 2-year-long Robotics Challenge launched last week by DARPA, the Pentagon's advanced research agency. This bad boy, called Pet-Proto, won't be part of the $2 million competition, but gives an indication of what DARPA is looking for: a robot that can handle tasks and obstacles in disaster and rescue scenarios. Please don't be alarmed that it moves more like Schwarzenegger than Jagger. There's absolutely no chance it's a cyborg assassin programmed to thwart human resistance. Yet. [Source]
