Congressman wants to keep Congress from 'messing with the Internet'
11/28/2012
Hey, Uncle Sam, get your grubby hands off the Internet until 2015! That's the essential idea behind California Rep. Darrell Issa's proposed Internet American Moratorium Act, legislation that would prevent Congress from passing any "new laws, rules or regulations governing the Internet" for two years. Issa posted his bill on Reddit, writing, "Together, we can make Washington take a break from messing w/ the Internet" (although we'd gladly approve legislation that prevented congressmen from using abbreviations like "w/"). Response has been mixed. "You can't know what the [Internet] will look like … in two years, and making it harder to respond to emerging threats or opportunities is an abdication of your responsibilities as a member of Congress," one user wrote.
