Texas honors beloved coach with trick play from his signature offense
11/10/2012The University of Texas paid tribute to deceased coaching icon Darrell Royal on Saturday with a helmet decal and a midfield logo, but Longhorns coach Mack Brown took it another step: he lined up his offense in Royal's famed wishbone formation (with three running backs positioned in a "Y" behind the quarterback) for the first play. Then Brown just went crazy, ordering up some double-pass trickery that went for 47 yards against Iowa State. Royal mostly stuck with running the football out of the 'bone, but he threw in some tricks, too. And he could hardly have wished for a better outcome for his beloved Horns.
