D.C. pulls in a huge amount of money from parking tickets
3/6/2012Bring a roll of quarters next time you need to park in Washington, D.C. According to data collected by the American Automobile Association, D.C. raked in a record $92.6 million in ticket revenue during 2011, thanks to 1.6 million parking citations. The AAA did the math and calculated that the city brought in an average of $370,000 in fines every working day of the year. And while that amount is eye-popping, D.C. is already on track to break the record, having collected $31 million so far in the current fiscal year. In addition to citations, the nation's capital brings in approximately $40 million in fees from parking meters.
