DC reveals identity of its first openly gay superhero
6/1/2012The news is officially out -- and so's the Green Lantern. After weeks of speculation, DC Comics confirms that Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern (not the Hal Jordan character recently portrayed by Ryan Reynolds), will become its first gay male superhero. Scott's identity and sexuality will be relaunched in the newest issue of "Earth 2," a series that "puts a new spin on the original versions" of DC's characters. "What I really want to do ... is make the fact that he's gay to be a part of who he is and not to be the one identifying aspect of him," writer James Robinson said. Green Lantern's biggest likely advocate? Batwoman, who's been out and proud since 2009.
