Wherefore art thou, bone? Deaf pit bull stars in Shakespeare festival

8/6/2012

One of the stars of this year’s Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival knows the life of a struggling actor. After all, six years ago, Michael was scheduled to be euthanized after being captured on Reno’s mean streets. Did we forget to mention Michael’s a deaf pit bull? The unlikely thespian is playing the role of Crab the dog in the festival’s production of “Two Gentlemen of Verona,” channeling a “miscreant of sorts who doesn’t care to please his owner” and earning his per diem by whining at actors’ monologues or chewing on co-stars’ feet. Owner Michelle Okashima is glad someone took a chance on her performing pooch. “I was shocked he got the part,” she says. [Source]
