NASA: Chill out about the Mayan end-of-the-world thing, people
11/30/2012No less an authority than NASA has stepped in to debunk the widely, if speciously, held fear that the world might end on Dec. 21 — supposedly a significant date on the ancient Mayan calendar. For example, scientists say, the Earth will not be demolished by a rogue planet, nor will it be sucked into a black hole. More legitimate concerns, they say, are further freaking out vulnerable or even suicidal young people, or ignoring potential real-life crises: "The greatest threat to Earth in 2012, at the end of this year and in the future, is just from the human race itself."
