New company pins prospects on mining asteroids within 12 years
1/23/2013So, the future has happened — and you're living in it. A new company called Deep Space Industries has formed with the intention of mining asteroids and colonizing other planets. They hope to have a fleet of prospecting spacecraft ready by 2015, and be sucking water and minerals out of rocks hurtling through space within 10 years. The company says harnessing fuel and other goodies from asteroids is humanity's best hope of bringing our bacon sundaes and short shorts to other worlds. "Using resources harvested in space is the only way to afford permanent space development," CEO David Gump said in a statement. [Source]
