Danish cyclists get fancy roadway and chocolates

7/19/2012

People of Denmark, you already have Carlsberg beer and Lego headquarters — must you have an awesome, environmentally friendly bike superhighway, too?! Residents have been starting to commute to Copenhagen using an 11-mile stretch of paved cycling “interstate” that reaches from the suburb of Albertslund into the city center. Urban planners designed the route, the first of 26 bike paths to be incorporated into the capital’s transportation infrastructure, to increase bike use among residents. That shouldn't be hard; half of said residents already bike to work or school daily. If you follow all the pedaling rules of the road, you might even be approached by a city employee with a box of chocolates as part of Copenhagen’s “karma campaign.” Sweet. [Source]
