Detroit police union warns visitors to enter city 'at their own risk'

10/8/2012

It's no secret that Detroit's national reputation has long been that of a city in perpetual decline. Well, its police union didn't exactly change this perception when it recently announced that out-of-town visitors to the city are entering the city "at their own risk" because the police force is understaffed and current officers are being overworked and underpaid. "Detroit is America's most violent city, its homicide rate is the highest in the country and yet the Detroit Police Department is grossly understaffed," said Donato Iorio, the police union's attorney. Iorio also said officers are "beyond demoralized" from overwork and pay cuts and from facing "deplorable, dangerous and war-like conditions." [Source]
