Half of Detroit just isn't that into paying property taxes

Almost half of Detroit's 305,000 property owners failed to pay property taxes last year, amounting to a loss of $246.5 million for the city. Many residents question why they’re paying taxes to a city that has failed to provide many basic services to its citizens, to which you might say, "Fair point." There are reportedly a lot of problems with the tax system, including that a few large businesses and neighborhoods shoulder much of the tax burden. Detroit also has some of the highest property taxes in the nation, and experts say the city relies on inflated assessments to calculate how much homeowners pay. Forget Robocop.
