Diabetes could be the hottest new trend for teens
5/21/2012A troubling new study shows that one in four teens may develop Type 2 diabetes or, worse, may already be living with the disease. A decade ago, only one in 10 kids between the ages of 12 and 19 fit into that at-risk category. Before you pry those Fruit Roll-Ups out of your kids' hands, the latest findings should be "interpreted with caution": The teens were given a single test, and the results could be affected based on when they ate their last meal or how far they've traveled into Puberty Land, which increases insulin resistance. Diabetes researchers have suggested that this study "needs to be replicated" and other contributing factors need to be considered before we descend into an OMG!-style frenzy.
Do you think your child is at risk?
