Disappointed US company has to hand over $504M treasure
2/21/2012Two military transport planes from Spain are headed to the United States to pick up 17 tons of once-sunken treasure. U.S. undersea explorers found about $504 million worth of Spanish silver coins and other artifacts in a Spanish galleon off the Portuguese coast in 2007. After a five-year court battle, a federal judge ruled last week that the Tampa, Fla., based company, Odyssey Marine Exploration, had to hand over the booty. The Spanish Culture Ministry said the riches are classified as part of Spain's national heritage and will be displayed in at least one museum around the country.
Should it be 'finders, keepers' for the sunken treasure?
