Turns out there's something even worse than using your phone while driving: tending to your kids. A new Australian study has concluded that having kids in the car is 12 times more distracting than talking on a cell phone. The researchers studied what they called "eyes-off-the-road time" — and found that a parent shifted his or her attention to the kids during three minutes of the tested 16-minute road trips. Fathers were apparently worse offenders than moms, but both can learn some ameliorating tricks, researchers said, including having snack bags at hand and setting up their cell phones to block incoming calls.
