DKNY accused of stealing from NY photographer, makes $25K apology
2/26/2013Brandon Stanton, a photographer who runs the popular Humans of New York photo site, says he was approached by DKNY to buy 300 of his photos, but he turned the company down because DKNY's offer was below market value. That's why he was shocked when a fan sent him a photo of a DKNY store in Bangkok that used his photos anyway. Rather than sue, Stanton asked DKNY for a $100,000 donation to his local YMCA. A rep from DKNY claimed that the Bangkok store "[inadvertently] … used an internal mock up containing some of Mr. Stanton's images," but the company still made a $25,000 donation to the YMCA in Stanton's name as a peace offering. All's well that ends sort-of well? [Source]
