Doctors remove wriggling worm from behind man's eye

7/2/2012

Imagine the horror of learning that the persistent itch in your eye was being caused by a five-inch worm crawling around behind your eyeball. Needless to say, doctors in Mumbai were flabbergasted. The unwelcome stowaway "just kept moving and jumping," exclaimed Dr. V. Seetharaman. "It was the first time in my career of 30 years that I had seen such a case." The worm was removed during minor surgery from a 75-year-old Indian pensioner named P.K. Krishnamurthy who, doctors said, may have eaten the worm in poorly cooked food. They theorized that it traveled through the man's bloodstream and settled in the right eye. As the worm turns, indeed.
