Dog uses a sixth sense to save seizure-stricken owner5/8/2012
This German shepherd gets more than a biscuit for his amazing tricks. Debbie Zeisler, who suffers from seizures, adopted Bear from a shelter three years ago. Without training, the sharp shepherd developed a sixth sense that enables him to detect an imminent seizure and prompt Zeisler to sit down or seek out medical attention. Last May she ignored her pup's pleas, headed outside and collapsed, hitting her head. Bear sprang to action, scratching at neighbors' doors and finally fetching an animal control officer. For saving his owner's life, the Los Angeles SPCA gave Bear the National Hero Dog Award, which includes a year's worth of free dog food to keep him energized for his next heroic act.
