Swedish researchers found that a major factor in dogs evolving from man-eating wolves into cuddly, docile pets was due to a willingness to eat grains. According to the researchers at Uppsala University, early dogs’ ability to eat and digest starches like wheat, rice, potatoes and corn mirrored humans' shift to grain-heavy diets. Having tapped into a new food source by scavenging off humans, hounds no longer saw people as meals. One of the scientist called the findings a "striking case of co-evolution."
