All English dogs must get microchips embedded in their necks

2/7/2013

Proper English pet owners must soon get their puppies fitted with microchips — or face a steep fine. The British government has announced that all dogs in England must have microchips embedded in the backs of their necks by 2016. The chips contain identifying information that could help the dogs return to their owners should they get lost or stolen. About 60 percent of British dog owners have already microchipped their pets, as have some cats and rabbit owners. Horse owners have been required to do so since 2009. Dog owners who refuse to comply with the new requirement will be fined up to $800. Cat owners shouldn't get their backs up: Microchipping kitties is still optional. [Source]
