$5 million car elevator is more impressive than any car
4/14/2012There's no denying the 1 percent have the best toys, even when it comes to the ostensibly basic stuff, like where you park your car. Case in point: software magnate Tom Gonzalez's $5M car elevator built directly into the driveway of his palatial Lake Tahoe estate, which is featured on HGTV's "Million Dollar Rooms." A regular aboveground garage won't do -- he has one of those, but it's filled with never-before-ridden collectible motorcycles, so instead an entire section of the pavement rises up and lowers in the style of an aircraft-carrier elevator. Up to three cars can be loaded onto the heated 60-foot-long platform, and the whole shebang carries them down into a 6,000-square-foot subterranean garage.
What would you buy for $5 million?
