Don't be surprised if you drop dead on your birthday
6/11/2012As we get older, birthdays can feel traumatic. Turns out they can also be deadly, at least according to a party-pooper study that found that people over age 60 are 14 percent more likely to die on their birthdays. The rate of heart attacks and strokes increases 18.6 percent and 21.5 percent, respectively, while suicides rise 34.9 percent and accidental deaths climb 28.5 percent. One theory is that we overindulge on our birthdays; another is that we keep ourselves going to reach an age milestone and then surrender to the inevitable. A third theory attributes the higher death rate to the "birthday blues" -- which, if you didn't feel on your birthday before, you may now.
Do you tend to get the blues or overindulge on your birthday?
