7/10/2012While NYC's mayor has been busy banning ginormous sodas from the Big Apple, researchers have been gathering data that indicates being overweight or mildly obese isn't associated with an increased risk for premature death. In fact, the study cited in the July/August issue of The Journal of American Board of Family Medicine, which followed the health of 50,994 participants categorized by body mass index over six years, says that even the morbidly obese seemed to escape an early demise -- if you discount the folks with diabetes and hypertension. The group that should most fear the reaper? The underweight. Bloomberg, you got nuthin'.
