Don't take away our bacteria-ridden raw milk, fans plead

5/17/2012

Running out for a gallon of raw milk? Shelves may soon be empty, thanks to a recall in California of the allegedly überhealthy substance. Health officials say at least 10 Californians contracted the icky-sounding Campylobacter bacteria from raw, unpasteurized dairy earlier this year, with symptoms including diarrhea, cramps and fever. Raw-food fans often happily sign waivers saying they actually prefer their food to contain such bacteria as listeria and E. coli, so they're steaming over rumors that Los Angeles County health officials are visiting people's homes and attempting to snatch raw milk from their fridges. With advocates believing the product can cure everything from cancer to asthma, you can be sure they're already crying over this spilled milk.
