Doritos went from the trash at Disneyland to triumph
4/9/2012It should have been obvious to us long ago that Doritos would have some connection to the Happiest Place on Earth, Disneyland. And BAM: Doritos were first sold in Disneyland, the same place that brought us Robot Harrison Ford. When Disneyland opened in 1955, one of its restaurants was Casa de Fritos, owned by the founder of Frito-Lay. When Disneyland started buying food from a Mexican family company, Alex Foods, Casa de Fritos got supplies of tortillas, which reportedly the cooks had no idea how to use. When a route salesman saw a cook toss a delivery of tortillas in the trash, he explained they could be fried to make chips. And thus, the Dorito was born -- from the trash. But the trash at Disneyland! Pretty magical.
