Rapper thinks stores should pay up for making 'YOLO' their motto, too

12/27/2012

A diehard last-minute shopper, rapper Drake was strolling the store aisles on Christmas Eve when he came across some gear that would have been perfect for his hard-to-buy-for peeps, emblazoned as it was with his signature lyric "YOLO." That's hip-hop shorthand for "You only live once," from his track "The Motto." Except that nobody has shown him the money for the use of the phrase. "Walgreens....you gotta either chill or cut the cheque," he posted on Instagram, later chiding Macy's as well, for their T-shirts with the odd combination of "YOLO is my motto" and Charlie Brown. Problem is, more than 80 "YOLO" trademarks already exist. So in Drake's case, it won't be a matter of "You only litigate once." [Source]
