Terrible drought will spell disaster for our cheese needs
7/19/2012
The country’s severe drought may soon affect a piece of America that is very close to our hearts: pizza. Cows are producing far less milk in the soaring temperatures, which is set to drive up the price of dairy products. Roger Hoskin from the Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service explained the terrible repercussions: “You’ll see less cheese on pizzas and in salad bars.” Also worrying, price hikes in corn and meat might follow. The price of milk could rise by 10 to 15 cents in August and possibly by another 25 cents by Christmas. Time to start stockpiling the underground cheese bunker, people. [Source]
