Dumb-luck gambler wins $40,000 on $25 NBA bet
5/2/2012On April 29, the Los Angeles Clippers rallied from a 27-point deficit to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies in the opening game of their playoff series. Turns out a man took a dubious gamble on a Clippers' comeback -- and was rewarded with $40,000. With the Clips still trailing by 27 with eight minutes to play, an online betting site tempted "foolish" gamblers to bet $100, and if the Clips won, winner pockets $55,555. The bettor waged $25 as an expensive joke with his buddies, but soon enough it was clear: The joke was on the betting site.
