Mean old patent office won't let Dunkin' call its coffee 'the best'
11/27/2012Where can you get the best cup of coffee in America? According to Dunkin' Donuts, the finest cup of joe can be found in its thousands of stores nationwide, and the company wanted to make that designation official. The coffee chain had applied to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to claim exclusive rights to the phrase "Best Coffee in America." However, the office has now responded and dismissed the bid, ruling that the slogan was "nothing more than a claim of superiority." Dunkin' is declining to say whether it's going to appeal the decision, though we bet there are a bunch of caffeinated execs guzzling carafes of dark roast right now as they plan their next move.
