Hurricane Sandy hero Dylan Smith drowns
12/25/2012Dylan Smith, the surfer who rescued six people during Hurricane Sandy, has drowned off the coast of Puerto Rico. Smith was listed as one of People magazine’s 2012 "Heroes of the year" after saving Queens residents with a homemade rope bridge and his surfboard. His body was found floating in the water off Maria’s Beach in Rincon, Puerto Rico, where Smith had been surfing. It’s terrible to see a hero perish, but at the very least, he passed doing the sport that he both loved and had already used to help so many others. [Source]
