Eagle Scouts return medals to protest Boy Scout ruling on gays
7/25/2012
Last week, the Boy Scouts of America reiterated their decision to exclude gays, both as scouts and as leaders. Within days, a number of Eagle Scouts — straight Eagle Scouts — started returning their medals to the organization. BoingBoing writer Maggie Koerth-Baker posted the letter that her husband Christopher Baker sent, noting that reaching the highest rank in the Scouts is "a big deal," requiring 21 merit badges and a year-long service project. "Today I am returning my Eagle Scout medal because I do not want to be associated with the bigotry for which it now stands," Baker wrote. "I hope that one day BSA stands up for all boys," signing the letter beneath the word "Disappointedly." [Source]
