'Earth's twin' will be found in 2013, so start trashing this planet
12/29/2012Quit worrying about climate change, pollution and other world-ending problems. Soon we'll have an all-new Earth to mess up, if astronomers' predictions come true. They believe it's likely we'll discover the first truly Earth-like planet in 2013. Although several planets have been found spinning around sun-like stars, so far they're either too big or orbit too far out of a "habitable zone" to be considered a true Earth twin. Planet hunters Abel Mendez, from the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo, and Geoff Marcy, from the University of California, Berkeley, both believe Earth 2.0 will be confirmed by NASA's Kepler Space Telescope.
