East Coast ice cream shortage no laughing matter

6/22/2012

Northeasterners will be jumping for joy at the first chime of the ice cream truck this summer. Why? Because a shortage of frosty treats has been reported in New England. Three of Good Humor's classic treats — the Toasted Almond, Candy Center Crunch and Chocolate Éclair ice cream bars — sold in unprecedented numbers because of the unusually warm East Coast spring. Sadly, this left scant stock to sate customers; they'll have to wait until more can be produced for mid-summer. One Long Island lawmaker expressed his hot temper about the Good Humor shortage by calling a news conference to complain on behalf of 10,000 families screaming for ice cream.
