High school rivalry hits a new low now that a dead cat is involved

11/22/2012

Sports rivalries are incubators of insane and irrational behavior. But add teenage hormones, the volatile mix explodes, and you get a dead cat left at a school. Easton High School and Phillipsburg High are longtime rivals split by the Delaware River — Easton is in Pennsylvania; Phillipsburg is in New Jersey. On Monday, Easton’s Red Rover bulldog statue was returned damaged after being stolen on Nov. 16. Three Phillipsburg students reportedly fessed up to that, and in retaliation, some derange morons dumped a dead cat (Phillipsburg’s mascot resembles a cat) at the front door of the school on Tuesday. We’re all for tweaking your rival, but leaving a corpse outside their school? That’s taking the idea of a bloodthirsty rivalry way too literally. [Source]
